Default Is it possible to network two BT5 machines together?

I have successfully networked Win XP to my BT5 system running these commands on BT5:
    echo 1 > /proc/sys/net/ipv4/ip_forward
    iptables -t nat -A POSTROUTING -o wlan0 -j MASQUERADE
    ifconfig eth0

then setting a static IP on XP with a dns of
(there is a router between the 2 computers)

but i cant get a BT5 machine to use the internet like i could with the win XP. It will connect to the gate way, and i can ping it or do whatever i want, just no internet connectivity.

My question is: (if it is possible to network two BT5 machines) what am i missing? should i try setting up a proxy through the BT5 machine that has internet?
