    Question openvas NVT and Rsync

    Hi -
I just installed a new copy of BT-R2. Did the update/upgrade and trying to use OpenVAS. I have checked the BT Wiki for OpenVAS and followed the steps. I created a user, certificate, and can connect to a client. However, the problem is with OpenVAS NVT. When I run the NVT, I get the following error:

[i] This script synchronizes an NVT collection with the 'OpenVAS NVT Feed'.
[i] The 'OpenVAS NVT Feed' is provided by 'The OpenVAS Project'.
[i] Online information about this feed: ''.
    [i] NVT dir: /usr/local/lib/openvas/plugins
    [i] Will use rsync
    [i] Using rsync: /usr/bin/rsync
[i] Configured NVT rsync feed: rsync://
rsync: failed to connect to Connection timed out (110)
rsync error: error in socket IO (code 10) at clientserver.c(122) [receiver=3.0.3]
Error: rsync failed. Your NVT collection might be broken now.
I have checked the forums, Wiki and the video about OpenVAS - but can't figure out the solution. Any inputs?

Try to resync, make sure your internet connection is working first though.
If that does not help then use apt to purge the openvas pacakge and reinstall it.
This shouldn't be needed though. Many times trying to resync to the server will solve the problem. The last line above about NVT collection might be broke is rather generic.
To be successful here you should read all of the following.
If you are new to Back|Track

Failure to do so will probably get your threads deleted or worse.

I know this is an older post but this problem still happens.
It is a problem with the way rsync is being used...

If you use openvas-nvt-sync with the --wget flag it should work.

    openvas-nvt-sync --wget
