View Full Version : Restarting After Kismet?

Hi everyone. I'm fairly new to wireless pentesting (or wireless, in general). I've been playing with Kismet and Aircrack, along with a GPS. Everything seems to be going pretty well, even with a few bumps along the way. I'm using my Dell 1501 with a Intel wireless chip, utilizing the ipw3945 driver.

Kismet fires up great, runs all day long for me.

1) When I shift+Q to close Kismet, it closes ok, but ends with a segmentation fault.

2) I place my card back into managed mode, and it can see wireless networks just fine, but when I try to connect to any network, regardless of security, it acts as if it can't get assigned an IP and ultimately fails.

Any help which you might provide would be most graciously accepted. Thank you!

After closing Kismet are you able to successfully associate to your wireless network?
If so, did you try running dhclient3 to force a request/assignment of an IP address?
If not, try unloading then reloading your wireless card module using modprobe.

Ah, I got it finally. Ended up just needing to reload the driver for whatever reason. Now I'm gonna have to learn how to write script so Kismet will do it automatically when it closes. :) Thanks!
