Yea, that does make sense. My whole point though, was the odds of some one sniffing your dsl/cable modem traffic was a lot lower than the odds of some one sniffing your traffic at a hot spot. Just look at the Idiots Corner.
Thanks for the explanation, and the suggestion on the dsl modem thing. I went and did a google on it. Holy crap! There's a lot of problem there. I didn't even think about that. Couldn't find anything about my modem, so I feel a bit better.
Of course, if you really wanted to have some fun, go to Wal-Mart late at night and ask the greeter if they could help you find trashbags, roll of carpet, rope, quicklime, clorox and a shovel. See if they give you any strange looks. --Streaker69
The explanation that you gave clarifies a lot and really makes sense. When I was writing my previous post I had another VPN set-up in mind so your assumption was correct.
I have also checked whether or not there are security issues with one of my DSL modems and I must admit that, at first sight, the results are a bit disturbing.
