    Default Helping a neighbor

Is there a way to let a neighbor know that he or she has is AP completely open to anyone?
His AP even has the router name SMC. LOL
No encryption, no MAC filter, nothing... poor guy...
How can I let him know?
    Thanks

If you know your neighbor's phone number you could phone him.

Alternatively you could walk to his front door and knock on it.

If you are very shy, you could put a letter in his post box.

Otherwise, you could do what neighbor's sometimes do and inform him from over the fence.

Well I assume he doesn't know which neighbor it is, since it won't say the neighbors name.

You could just walk around or do some "social engineering" to find out who has the router. But there is no way to simply locate the AP.

Just make sure that you don't connect to it, since it is illegal even it is wide open. Not even to peak in. Yeah we know, it is tempting. But don't do it.

Yeah I know, I was just messing with him. Isn't it possible to use the gps map thing and/or or signal strength meter in kismet to get a general idea of the location of the AP.

The location isn't likely to be any better than his guess based on where he lives.

Thanks theprez98 , and if he lives in a flat for example, I assume it makes things even more complicated.

I like how people here at the dorm use their MAC addresses, Room #'s, and Names for ESSIDs. xP. Mine is obscure: "Pipiru Piru Piru Pipiru Pi" or "d(^~^)b".

Yes, I live on a flat, fifth floor to be precise, so I have to think 3d.
    I've another axis to consider....lolololol
Well I guess that's it then, I don't even know if it’s the same building...
Give him time perhaps it's just a matter of days before he tightens up security.

Put an anonymous note in the elevator/lift. Everyone probably knows about it already. Hopefully for him, he'll notice it.

A note would be good. Maybe get permission from the landlord, or whoever is in charge and write up a little thing warning people about open wireless and then post it a few places around the building? Might even be able to make a few bucks from people wanting you to do it for them. So if you do that, maybe make a new email address from gmail or something and add that on there.
