I don't know if you are trying to be funny with that or what. You don't think I've looked on Google? Shit, almost anything is available there and I've probably been using it longer than most people on the board. But I wanted to know where/how other people learned.

Maybe there was an exceptionally good book. Maybe a GREAT website. I'm looking for personal reflection (if possible) or just insight as to what/where to look. I'm not asking people to write them for me, just point me in the right direction for well written books. I don't think that is asking too much. I know if someone asked me and I had read a book that was great I would tell them, "check this book out". Or if I had seen a site that was well written for beginners, I'd suggest that. If I were an a**hole, that hadn't read a book on it, or just didn't care, i'd point them to Google. Please don't be the latter. ( No need for harsh language)

So, now that we have the "GOLDEN" resource, Google out of the way, please let me hear your responses. Thanks.

Sorry, I apologize for not being more specific. I guess that shows my ignorance of the subject. What I want to do is be able to do automated Linux commands, auto installs, backups, wireless install, wireless WEP cracks, etc.

Would that be Bash scripting? Sorry I should have specified this previously.

a book called 'linux shell scripting with bash' kicks ass IMHO for learning how to write decent sh scripts. from burtch i think.

Bash is a shell. Most shells (including Bash) can be scripted.

I like this book. It has 101 scripts, and although it's not a instructional book per se, if you're passingly familiar with programming at all, it will probably be a big help.
