Fatal error occured - can't setup union
Hello everyone,
I'm trying to use the BT3 installer to create a harddisk bootable
version. No OS is currently installed and its blank.
Toshiba Pro 4300 series
I think it is trying to install on an incompatible filesystem? If so, which are
compatible? (Tried NTFS / Linux E2TFS)
* testing the filesystem for posix compatibility
* not compatible - starting posixov
* setup union directory (using aufs, with udba=none)
mount: mounting aufs on union failed
Fatal error occured - can't setup union (aufs)
* Something went wrong and we can't continue. This should never happen.
* Please reboot your computer with Ctrl+Alt+Delete

I know the installer is untested. But I'm more inclined to think its my fault
than the programmer's

Did you format your newly created partition as EXT3?
(Don't forget you might want to add a small swap partition too)
Did you check out the usual suspects?
ISO MD5sum, good cdr media, slowest possible burn speed.
There are plenty of guides around the forums/wiki that should help you along

The iso works fine I've been booting off it.
I just wanted to take it to the next level
and make it a HD install.
I noticed that I was installing it with the LIVE option
instead of REAL.
I'll look the stuff up.. So a swap drive is a partition with the
swap file on it? Neat I do that with windows boxes.
This is so cool. I haven't been in the linux scene for ages.
I was playing around with Slackware 4.0
Got a binder full of old notes too heh..
Man has linux evolved.

Okay fixed.
So for any other n00b that gets stuck in the same predicament:
1. Make an ext3 partition
2. Make a Linux Swap partition (optional I guess)
3. Boot from CD and do a REAL install
(Make sure to uncheck restore original MBR)
(This is just to facilitate searching and solution finding for other users)
