I don't mean to appear completely backward, but maybe it's unavoidable!?
I've downloaded the backtrack 4 ISO, and Unetbootin.
Extracted the ISO to a USB, no worries.
Directions instruct me to run bootinst.bat, which I can't find on the USB I've created.
(I'm using Windows XP for this process)
Is there an alternative route to achieve this process, or a place I can find the bat file?
I've searched all over but can't find an existing thread that answers this question.
The only ones google throws up are on the remote-exploit.org site that seems to be down right now.
Many thanks

Thanks for the reply and for your help.
I followed this instructions, and got the USB bootable.
But thought I must have some problem, as when booting it comes up with errors to the effect of:
"Couldn't mount because of optional features"
then it continues with the boot, but does not get into any kind of graphic OS, just a prompt.
Any ideas?
What boot option should I be choosing on boot?
At the moment I'm downloading a fresh copy of the ISO and I'll try again.
Once again, many thanks. Must be a paint to deal with all us newbies.
Don't worry about the errors, unless they're FATAL or Panic. Linux wasn't made to run error-free on all machines.
Several. But only one that will work in your case. Log in. startx. read more.
That is, unless you're dropped to the busybox prompt. Then you gotta whole other can 'o' problems.
Whichever one makes you feel butterflies in your tummy. It really doesn't matter, they all do fairly similar things. However, I recommend using 1024x768 or 800x600.
You're just wasting bandwidth...
Absolutely, but without you guys, I wouldn't have a job... or... even a purpose in life?
Cheers, and let us know how you're doing with this.

I was looking for the samething!
I downloaded the latest Backtrack 4 final.
I followed a usb guide which asked for "bootinst.bat"
I executed and ran unetbootin with bt4-final ISO with no problems
I go to boot up and get "error 15" which I am assuming has something to do with the new BT4 missing "bootinst.bat" file
So I am trying to get the latest BT4-Final on a usb stick. Do we need to download a previous version or Back Track to get this working?
