PM Spam

I'm not sure about the whole "cable scenario". I mean, they've been there how long and nothing has happened, and then all of a sudden BAM 3 are out? Sounds kinda suspicious to me.

I've seen spam drop off here since certain under water cables were severed.

I'm sure they accidentally anchored on it as well.

Anyone else getting PM spam lately?

I saw that suspicious username join the other day, but thought he was then banned.
It may be that he fired off some PM spam first, or perhaps I am mistaken in thinking he was subsequently banned (in which case I'll take care of it now )

I expect everyone already knows this.......but, in your profile you can elect to only receive PM's from people in your "buddy" list, if that's of any (small) help?

Also, I'll look into seeing if I can incorporate the posting restriction for new members with the ability of sending PM's also.........that should help a little too.

If we see signups that are obviously spammers, do you want us to report them, or are you guys watching out for them yourselves?

I also noticed that the name was on all day here like myself, I figured that the pm's will go only to those that arent so active here on the forums, or that are not on at the same time as the spammer. Usually I just permanently ban, via the "spam infraction rule", any usernames that are obviously spam - "cheapviagrahere" "freepornthere" etc.
You wouldn't believe the amount of them piled up in the banned members list
Common names/terms are also blocked.
The other moderators will take the same action.
But, of course, if you spot any names of questionable type appearing, please do report it, or just PM me, etc.....

Now thats the best Idea of them all.

Limit any "new" user to have to post a minimum of 10 post to be able to send anyone a PM (besides the Admins of course in case of registration issues). I think your then a Junior member at 10 post?? So that way no new members can send PM's. Only Junior members and above can. That way we can eliminate new member spammers via PM. Well, all of em but Spanky.
