Default aireplay-ng ioctl failed on ipw2200

First, yes. I am a total newbie. BUT, I read the wiki for aircrack and the ipw2200. I am stuck.

I am attempting to figure out how aircrack works. I am using an ipw2200 chipset, native to my Dell laptop.

    I start airmon-ng using:
    airmon-ng start eth0 1

I get a message indicating monitor mode is enabled on eth0

ifconfig indicates frequency 2.412, which should be right. But, when I try:
    aireplay-ng --test -i CDC eth0

    I get a message:
    Interface CDC:
    ioctl(SIOCGIFINDEX) failed: No such device

What device is not being seen? I am simply confused.

PS. I am using BT3 Beta.

    THANKS!!

Post aireplay-ng ioctl failed on ipw2200 [setup interface]

    junkmonk:
First, you will need to learn more about these tools because driver ipw2200 only supports arpreplay, chopchop and interactive attacks only.
    airodump-ng
    aireplay-ng
    aircrack-ng

The ipw2200 is powerful, but it is not ready out of the box.
Setup an interface that will serve as your monitoring interface:
    rmmod ipw2200
    modprobe ipw2200 rtap_iface=1
    ifconfig rtap0 up

I found wifislax works smoothly for a chopchop w/o clients using ipw2200
