A Problem while using airodump-ng

Why it takes a very long time (up to 15 mins) to scan and it still not finish scanning while I am using airodump-ng in backtrack 4

P.S.
I am using the Linksys WUSB54G.

I assume you've never used airodump-ng before. For starters, it's going to continue scanning until you hit ctrl-c. It will constantly be on the look out for signals. Maybe you would benefit from trying this command:

man airodump-ng

Just type that into your console.You'd be amazed at what you can learn about things from variations of that command. Good luck bro.
