Well, my IBM X30 only boots with the boot option "nohotplug". Otherwise the boot hangs after the line "Module dependencies up to date (no new kernel modules found)"
After booting, a "xconf" fails with sth . like "cannot run auto config", and "startx" ends with sth. like "Cannot open /dev/tty0 (no such file or directory)."
Anybody an idea?
PS: VGA compatible controller is Intel 82830 CGC

Hello, I am a Linux noob to be true.......and I have the same problem.
My X30 stalls during boot from cd and USB!
If I boot with debug option the last line is
"/sbin/modprobe -q parport_pc"
Second problem: if I boot with the nohotplug option and after login I issue xonf I get the error saying "cannot run autoconfig". Why this.....?? I have also VGA compatible controller is Intel 82830 CGC. Is this connected with the nohotplug option? I don't think so.
Xorgsetup doesn't work either ("cannot open /dev/tty0 - no such file or directoy), and with xorgconfig he asks me for information I really don't know (frequencies and stuff). Is there another way around. I really don't know what to do now!
Please help me, I'd also want to enjoy the new bt3 (btw. bt2 runs normally)
Thanks in advance!!!!
I found out that it seems to be a problem with udev.
nohotplug doens't start udev, and when you try to start udev with /etc/rc.d/rc.udev start after the nohotplug boot, it stalls...............
Has somebody an idea (no there are no error messages.......)
I know notting about that udev feature..............![]()

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Can I bump this, anyone have any info on what this might be?
ive been trying to play around with this by checking my current hardware informations such as my IDE controller using ata_piixx which is in /etc/modules.d/blacklist
still working on it, will update when i have more info
Thanks, keep working. There a quite a few ppl who have this "problem"....

i found an issue for this problem in a forum , with my laptop it solves the pb
- boot with nohotplug
# ln -s -f /lib/modules/2.6.21.5/kernel/drivers/char/agp/ati-agp.ko /lib/modules/2.6.21.5/kernel/drivers/char/agp/intel-agp.ko
(instead of "ati-agp.ko" choose the good one of course)
# /sbin/udevd --daemon
# /sbin/udevtrigger
# flux
excuse my english
Good job kingju.
Thanks for sharing this solution!![]()
