    Taken directly from the slapt-get website FAQ:
    24. How do I specify proxy settings?

    slapt-get takes advantage of the normal http_proxy and ftp_proxy shell
    variables. Here are some examples:

    # setting the env variables for the entire session
    $ export http_proxy=http://hostort
    $ export ftp_proxy=ftp://hostort
    # just setting them for the current command invocation
    $ http_proxy=http://hostort slapt-get --update

    If you are using ~/.netrc, libcurl automatically picks up your preferences.
    See the netrc(5) manpage for more information.

    Do try a bit of searching next time please. This will only serve to help you

    Just to clear a few things up for the guys getting the
    gslapt: symbol lookup error: gslapt: undefined symbol: slapt_init_source_list

    error: It's only when you upgrade to slapt-get version C..... I upgraded to that version after reading this thread and it worked perfectly for all the other faults.

    When it came to trying gslapt, I got the error above...so just reinstalled both Slapt-Get and gslapt from repo's...which took slapt-get back to version D...now I have no problems at all

    Hope this helps people after a final answer.

    Thanx for all the other posts that helped me get this far.

    This method does work, just applied it to my live usb setup and it works fine, updating the system with gslapt as we speak.

    Download packages from http:||packages.slackware.it
    Run:
    # installpkg gnupg-1.4.7-i486-1.tgz
    # installpkg gpgme-1.1.4-i486-1.tgz
    # installpkg libassuan-1.0.1-i486-1.tgz
    # installpkg slapt-get-0.9.12c-i386-1.tgz

    Worked fine.

    Will using slapt-get as posted here in this thread still be detrimental to the system overall?

    What do you mean "detrimental to the system"?

    as far as getting it to work? Yes follow this guide and it should work just fine.

    I was under the impression(please correct me if I'm wrong) at least last year when i started with bt2 final that using slapt-get would slowly destroy the system/packages because of the custom kernel

    Pleas can you explain why are some packages excluded after slapt-get --upgrade?

    There is a exclude list in your slapt-getrc file which excludes some crucial alsa and kernel stuff which is meant to prevent n00bs from shooting them selves in the foot after running a blind update and upgrade with out really knowing whats going on.
