A newbie calibre question...

Well this is a grey area for me, so where else better to post this?
I've got my perty lil' BT3 running with the superclean nvidia.lzm / compiz, but being that this is the first time I've really ever ran an OS off of a bootable USB, I'm wondering........... HOW DO I SAVE FILES AND CHANGES TO THE USB WHILE I'M RUNNING THE OS ON A USB?????
Please help a n00b out!!!!
(MODS PLEASE BE AWARE THAT 1) I'M ALREADY UP TO A 6 PACK @ 12PM AND 2) I CAN'T USE 3 LETTER SEARCH TERMS AS IN USB TO FIND THE INFO I NEED and I'm not so sure the Wiki has the info!!!)
dd if=/dev/swc666 of=/dev/wyze
Also, I noticed the mkchanges command option at the boot menu, but it doesn't work. Another issue since loading the nvidia.lzm, I cant end my session anymore to get back to the login prompt (when I logout it logs me right back in)
