retaining data on usb stick...

Whenever i boot bt3 from my usb stick, i take 20 minutes updating all the components... isn't their any way to retain the updates? I thought the point of a bootable usb stick was to have an actual hard drive, instead of a read only cd-rom.

Having the same problem here: usb wont keep the data I put on the desktop after rebooting ???
