Default BT4 Final-madwifi problem with WICD on EEEPC 701

Hi,i have just install and update BT4 Final distro on my asus 701,i know that madwifi drivers are integrated in BT4 so i prefer to use them instead of ath5k.To do that i make the following actions:

I add the ath_pci module to the kernel:

    nano /etc/modules

i add ath_pci to the end of the file.

    ath_pci

    then i run:

    lsmod | grep ath5k

    rmmod ath5k

    and then i blacklist it:

    echo “blacklist ath5k” | sudo tee -a /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist

after that i comment the ath_pci module in /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist:

    #blacklist ath_pci

    I changed the wifi interface in WICD manager from wlan0 to ath0 and i reboot the PC.After the restart i run start-network and startx commands,but when i open WICD manager it shows "no wireless netwoks available".I open Konsole and run ifconfig,here is the output;

    root@bt:~# ifconfig

On first look everything seems to be fine, but i have no wireless internet connection and when i try to use airodumb,i got the following error:

    root@bt:~# airodump ath0 test
    ioctl(SIOCSIWMODE) failed: Invalid argument

ARP linktype is set to 1 (Ethernet) - expected ARPHRD_IEEE80211
or ARPHRD_IEEE80211_PRISM instead. Make sure RFMON is enabled:
run 'ifconfig ath0 up; iwconfig ath0 mode Monitor channel <#>'

However i find the way to make packet injection works ,using the following commands:

    wlanconfig ath0 destroy

wlanconfig ath0 create wlandev wifi0 wlanmode monitor

But i can't get my WICD manager working.Obiously there is some kind of problem but i can't resolve it.Previously i used BT4 PreF with madwifi drivers ,and back then i did everything exactly the same way ,and i've never had any problems.Did i do something wrong, did i make any kind of mistake during the installation or this is some kind of bug in new BT4 Final distro.

Not sure if this is any help to you but,
I am using an Atheros AR5001 wireless chipset in my laptop and it works fine in BT4.
I did not have to make any changes to get it to work properly.
In WICD preferences I am using the wext wpa supplicant driver and Wlan0 wireless interface.
I was able to scan for networks as soon as I opened WICD.
Like I said, not sure if this will help at all. But sometimes just trying the basics will get you where you need to be.

it looks like you are trying to connect to wifi while still in monitor mode

wlanconfig ath0 create wlandev wifi0 mode managed

    should fix it

You didn't read my post carefully, after i start-netwrok i can't use niether my wireless internet connection ,neither packet injection in monitor mode,by default the wifi card is not in monitor mode, after running these command i'm only able to use the packet injection feature with aircrack, however whilie you are in monitor mode WICD manager still display all the APs around you but you can't connect to them!!

sorry i was reading your first post as an order of operations problem, note(you will always need to wlanconfig... to put your card in monitor mode, or use airmon-ng which does this for you before using injection). did you insert the wlan scan module? this would easily explaing why you don't see anything. if that doesn't work post more info.

The problem for me is not the aircrack and packet injection,it is the WICD manager and lack of internet connectivity,i just post some info about airckrack to show that my wireless interface is OK and is operational and working,so this is not a hardware problem.Back then when i'm using BT4 PRE i had no problem with WICD or packet injection mode!!

I have the same problem on EEEpc 601 .. only weirder . I folowed the same steps as you did to install madwifi and packet injection works fine .. monitor mode works fine .. the problema ins in Managed mode .. thus WICD .
What I observer is that when I first boot up BT4 .. the first ath0 , the one that is automaticly created is in 11b mode .. and I cant seem to make it work in managed mode in 11G ...
    Code:
    root@bt:~# iwconfig
    lo no wireless extensions.

    eth0 no wireless extensions.

    wifi0 no wireless extensions.

              Encryption key:off
              Power Management:off

Rx invalid nwid:0 Rx invalid crypt:0 Rx invalid frag:0
              Tx excessive retries:0 Invalid misc:0 Missed beacon:0
    Code:
    root@bt:~# iwpriv ath0 mode 11g
    root@bt:~# iwconfig ath0
    ath0 IEEE 802.11b ESSID:"" Nickname:""
              Mode:Managed Frequency:2.412 GHz Access Point: Not-Associated
              Bit Rate:1 Mb/s Tx-Power:17 dBm Sensitivity=1/1
              Retry:off RTS thr:off Fragment thr:off
              Encryption key:off
              Power Management:off
Link Quality=0/70 Signal level=-98 dBm Noise level=-98 dBm
Rx invalid nwid:0 Rx invalid crypt:0 Rx invalid frag:0
              Tx excessive retries:0 Invalid misc:0 Missed beacon:0
I will reinstall BT4 as soon as I can .. bun I was wondering if anyone has any thoughts on this one.
    Thank you

I am having the exact issue. I have been digging at this for days. Is this a bug or what? I am using AR5001X+ / ATH5K (ON THE DESKTOP)AND ATH9K (ON THE LAPTOP). I am pulling my hair out with this. It has to be super simple or a bug.

I solved my issue. It was a router security config problem.
