Default "loading the desktop" --> black screen

    hi!

I've got a problem (to be honest, two problems, but I hope to suceed in config Lilo just web-browsing for infos)

I've installed backtrack on my laptop, besides WinXp

It boots up correctly, then open up the login screen, the, if I choose "xstart", it opens up the frame "loading components, peripherals" and so on, it stays for minutes on "loading the desktop" and then goes black, with just the mouse arrow.

no matter how many time I wait, no matter how many time I press Ctrl+Alt+Plus..

So , I dunno how to use my backtrack
I tried with Fluxbox, but i'm not even able to open a stupid shell command

so I'm stucked, cos I cannot edit my lilo.conf, and cannot boot into win...

    please help!

Notice: with the LiveCD, xstart works greatly!
just after installation is making troubles; already tried to re-install, no effort...

Maybe 'cause the right command is startx and not xstart?
To start a command shell in fluxbox click the right button and search around the menu there is a xterm... yeah is that

Also before you do startx you should try the command xconf. And further more you do not need either of those window managers to edit your lilo.conf. the prompt where you type startx IS A SHELL.

    bt~#nano /etc/lilo.conf

    enter that and PRESTO!

Yeah, I meant startx of course; if I typed xstart I would have obtained just a bad command!

was just very tired when typed this topic!

btw, as purehate suggest, I resolved launching nano by the first prompt! and I resolved by myself, before reading purehate's post!

    btw, the monitor issue remains

I already tried xconf before typing startx, but always the same story...

    thanks for your replies!
