@sylvestor2002:
check this posting if u had this problem to mount a ext2 partition for changes: hxxp://forums.remote-exploit.org/showthread.php?t=10236&page=2
could u explain, what is in log befor this errormessage came up?
I am having the same problem during bootup:
"*setup union directory (using aufs, with udba=none)
mount: mounting aufs on union failed
FATAL error occured - can't setup union (aufs)
*Something went wrong and we can't continue. This should never happen.
*Please reboot your computer with Ctrl+Alt+Delete
# "
Please help !! I can't figure out what went wrong. I type ls at the # prompt. I see a bunch of directories. One of the directories is union. I "cd union", type "ls", type "mkdir etc" and get a message "mkdir: cannot create directory 'etc': Read-only file system.

I am a newbie. So I'm not sure which log or how I get to it to tell you what errors occured.
I had to reformat my pc after the error as I could not boot up my vista either. I did create a usb bt3 without any problems. So in theory, if the usb stick with bt3 installed runs on my pc, then my pc hard drive install should work too ?
thanks,
sylvestor.
*** Edit: Not only the wrong forum, also bad searching on my part. I found out I had to manually create the directory "changes" on the partition that I setup for saving changes. I'm sorry, never mind this post.
Guys and girls, I ran this awesome bt3 beta a couple of times from a live cd with no problems. I have the same problem as OP. To clarify:
* booting BT3 from Live cd works
* installing BT3 in live-mode from cd - gives the fatal error (can't setup union (aufs)) on boot
* installing BT3 in real-mode from cd - gives the fatal error on boot
But, and I think this is important
* installing BT3 in live-mode from a USB stick, while being md5 checked - also gives the fatal error on boot
Anyone can shed some light on this?
As board member St3f@n mentioned on 12-17-2007 at 11:20 PM in another topic the Fatal error occured - can't setup union (aufs) problem is solved:
