    Default Macchanger not working

Hello, i have been using backtrack for a while now, i have a netgear wg111 v2 usb with a RTL8187 chipset running default backtrack drivers and when i try to change my mac address i type this

    Code:
    {-=Matt=-} >ifconfig wlan0 down
    {-=Matt=-} >macchanger --mac 00:11:22:33:44:55 wlan0
    Current MAC: 00:18:4d:46:4a:a7 (unknown)
    Faked MAC: 00:11:22:33:44:55 (Cimsys Inc)
    {-=Matt=-} >ifconfig wlan0 up
It seems that it is working fine

    Code:
    wlan0 Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr 00:11:22:33:44:55
              BROADCAST MULTICAST MTU:1500 Metric:1
              RX packets:217 errors:6 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0
              TX packets:0 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0
              collisions:0 txqueuelen:1000
              RX bytes:4991 (4.8 KiB) TX bytes:0 (0.0 b)
but when i put it into monitor mode the mac address changes to this

    Code:
    wlan0 Link encap:UNSPEC HWaddr 00-11-22-33-44-55-30-3A-00-00-00-00-00-00-00-00
UP BROADCAST RUNNING MULTICAST MTU:1500 Metric:1
              RX packets:217 errors:3 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0
              TX packets:0 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0
              collisions:0 txqueuelen:1000
              RX bytes:4991 (4.8 KiB) TX bytes:0 (0.0 b)
any help would be greatly appreciated

    thanks

My guess is you can't put your card in monitor mode:
    Code:
    Link encap:UNSPEC HWaddr
    What card are you using?

I know I seem harsh in some of my replies. SORRY! But if you're doing something illegal or posting something that seems to be obvious BS I'm going to call you on it.

It does the same thing to me (always has). I believe that it is a bug in iwconfig. Just take the first 6 bytes of info to verify that your mac is indeed what you are spoofing.

    As a check,

    macchanger -s ath0

should also give you your current MAC address.
