Is there a way to preform a MANUAL installation? That is, to install bt2 without booting it from cd?
I have an old laptop (ibm x20) without cdrom, so I was trying to boot it with wingrub. No go. Actually, even the kernel has some problem with irq's so it hangs. I presume I could use precompiled kernel from knoppix (2.6.19 boots nicely) but still, the ramdisk initialization (initrd.gz from bt2 iso) cannot find the iso image and drops to a limited shell.
I tried to use bootfrom=/dev/hda1/bt2final.iso (hda1 is ntfs) but it seems the system ignored it? Neither with fromhd option i didn't get results.
Please tell me that I can do it this way, it would be a rather tedious task to setup a pxe boot.
P.S.
Sorry about the subject, I meant instaLLation!

That video is not gonna help him if he does'nt have a cd rom. If you can boot from usb you could burn the image to usb and then boot from that to do the hard drive install.
Didn't help me
I've setup the pxe server (with tftpd32), but now I have another problem.
Because the original kernel won't work for me (because of my crappy hardware), I use one from knoppix but it doesn't seems to have aufs support compiled in (it is compiled as a module).
Even if it had, I doubt it would be enough for startup scripts to "see" all the files and start bt2 like when you boot from cd.
I'm off to bed now, maybe I'll think of something tomorrow.![]()

so can you get your lapie to boot from a shell? If so I will post some instructions to recompile your kernel from a shell.
