I recommend you get the latest version of Backtrack 5 R3, also search for your wireless card and see if it works on Linux or not. Also it may require you to install the drivers for it.
Hi! I've god a Dell Latitude E5400, with BackTrack 5 R1. The computer has a dell wireless 1397 wlan mini-card.
So, when I type iwconfig, wlan0 does not show at all! I am new to this, but I've red and tried to disable Netword Manager without any good.
I am wondering wether this has to do with the fireware, but don't how to find and install the right version...
Or mabye it is something else?
Thanks for the help!![]()

I found this site.. but as the newbie I am... I am unsure on how to install the drivers that I downloaded... Would have updated.. but run om a 10kbit/s right now, so that would take to much time..
Well Backtrack is an advanced Linux distribution, if you are new to Linux I would recommend you go with Ubuntu first or run Backtrack inside a VirtualMachine that should make Backtrack operational except for WiFi which required an USB adaptor.
Other than that I can not really advise you more since I do not have that laptop to test![]()
