Post Return to initial Mac Add after use macchanger when set the interface up

    Hi,

I try to change my MAC address but i can't

With the Unix way i have a bad response :
    Code:
    bt ~ # ifconfig ra0 down
    bt ~ # ifconfig ra0 hw ether 00:17:F2:50:D2:A1
    SIOCSIFHWADDR: Invalid argument
    So i try :
    Code:
    bt ~ # macchanger –m 00:17:F2:51:D6:AF ra0
    Current MAC:	00:1b:00:1b:7e:a2	(unknown)
    Faked MAC:	00:17:f2:51:d6:af	(unknown)
    bt ~ # ifconfig ra0
    ra0 Link encap:Ethernet	HWaddr 00:17:F2:50:D2:A1
    It seems to work, but...
    Code:
    bt ~ # ifconfig ra0 up
    bt ~ # ifconfig ra0
    ra0 Link encap:Ethernet	HWaddr 00:1B:00:1B:7E:A2
Sorry, if this problem was posted before but i search "macchanger" word and find too many pages.

If you have a link instead of a reply you're welcome.

    Thank's

    Thank's for your reply.
    You're right: ra0 is a rt61 Driver.

I suppose remove and load my driver don't change my MAC Address.

So, when do I use macchanger ? After, before, other...

I know I am a newbie and it's the reason why I post here.

    useless???

It saves my brain from having to use hand to eye coordination just trying remember the damn mac of my card all the time. Thats why I always use macchanger --mac 00:11:22:33:44:55 ath0
    aireplay-ng -1 0 -e essid -a apmac -h 00:11:22:33:44:55 ath0

    instead of

    aireplay-ng -1 0 -e essid -a AP mac -h WhatsMyCardsMacAddress??Shit,IGotToPullOutMyCardNo wAndCopyItsMacAndDoThisAllOverAgain

But yes..other than that..its useless unless mac filtering is enabled like Shaman said.

    i do this
just change the name of your card, and your channel in first line, and the name of your card in second, copy paste it in shell
that will create 2 env variables in your current shell
$kard is used to simplify airmon-ng command
$card is the mac of the card

    ex

    bt ~ # export kard="rausb0 10"
    bt ~ # export card=$(macchanger --show rausb0 | awk -F " " {'print $3'})
    bt ~ # airmon-ng start $kard

    Interface Chipset Driver

    eth1 Centrino b/g ipw3945
rausb0 Ralink USB rt73 (monitor mode enabled)

    bt ~ # echo $card
    00:18:f8:a4:de:b7
    bt ~ #

that's the best way i think
    aireplay-ng -1 0 -e essid -a AP mac -h $card rausb0

Good God Niko..I remember back in the days of you learning bash shell scripting you were trying to figure out how to pipeline info from airodump, and trying to figure out how to break out of airodump while leaving the shell window open....

    NOW LOOK AT YOU!!

Your a freaking bash shell expert!!

Default How can i keep my faked mac after use macchanger ?

Excuse me, I just realise now reading all this thread, you don't understand my problem.

Get my old MAC back is not the question, because i can't change it.

Of course I try to change it because mac filtering is on.

macchanger works when i use it (my old mac in red):
    Code:
    bt ~ # ifconfig ra0 down
    bt ~ # macchanger –m 00:17:F2:51:D6:AF ra0
    Current MAC:	00:1b:00:1b:7e:a2	(unknown)
    Faked MAC:	00:17:f2:51:d6:af	(unknown)
    bt ~ # ifconfig ra0
    ra0 Link encap:Ethernet	HWaddr 00:17:F2:50:D2:A1
So, at the first time I thought "It's ok !". But the moment i try to set my interface on again, i get back my old address
    (and i don't want).
    Code:
    bt ~ # ifconfig ra0 up
    bt ~ # ifconfig ra0
    ra0 Link encap:Ethernet	HWaddr 00:1B:00:1B:7E:A2
So, have you any suggestion ?

Sorry if my langage is not correct, but english is not my first langage
(and i suppose it's not possible to post here in an other langage)

    Thank's for your patience
