After you hit ctrl-d it should drop you to a login prompt.
Make sure you video tape it and put it on YouTube.going to smash computer
when i hit control-d it reboots everything and tells me the same thing "manually run 2xfsck on hda2"...."log into user account by typing control-d"..."or enter root password to enter maintenenace". i dont know what else to do i reformated that partition in windows and using Gnome partition and changed file system to ext2 and it still says it
Sounds like you have a harddrive with physical bad sectors.
Might be time to buy a new one.
A third party security audit is the IT equivalent of a colonoscopy. It's long, intrusive, very uncomfortable, and when it's done, you'll have seen things you really didn't want to see, and you'll never forget that you've had one.
Test your Hard Drive if its still good with a DFT test (Drive Fitness Test)
Download this program at this site
http://www.softpedia.com/get/System/...ess-Test.shtml
This will create a bootable floppy disk. A CD image is also available for download
then just run the floppy or cd which ever one you make and do advanced test on your hard drive
If it passes you'll get a green screen, that mean your hard drive is fine
If you get a red screen it means you have a bad hard drive and show what section is bad.
