Default Intel HD 4000 not working in Backtrack 5r3 64bit?

    Hi Guys,

i was trying to get the 3D-Driver running on my new Laptop with Backtrack 5r3 64 bit KDE, but I had no luck so far. The Laptop has a HD 4000 Graphiccard (Ivy Bridge) + a Nvidia GT 640M LE (Optimus), Intel i7 CPU.

On my older Laptop (HD 3000 + Nvidia GT 555M) this one worked: http://www.backtrack-linux.org/forum...ad.php?t=48904
but not on the new one.
I also tried the other drivers form x-swat, glasen, ... none was working for me.

I booted from a Xubuntu Live-DVD with a newer Kernel (3.5 I think), from there the i915-driver was recognised automatically.

So my question is: is it possible to get the driver for the HD 4000 running, or do i have to wait for the next version of backtrack?

    I hope somebody can help....

    Hey there,

well I couldn't get it fixed either. I have installed newer intel graphics drivers from glasen PPA

    add-apt-repository ppa:glasen/intel-driver
    apt-get update
    apt-get install xserver-xorg-video-intel=2:2.15.0~lucid~ppa9

but there is bug with the kernel 3.2.6 that gives me now offset on the lvds.
But at least I can use my 2 external monitors.
I've tried applying the patches already and neither has helped and because of that I've issued a bug file at freedesktops.org :
    https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=60511

If you get it working please let me know. I will update the topic as I have anything new.

    Hi,

I have updated kernel to 3.2.15 and got HD 4000 working fine, we will see the dependency issues etc.. But I think for you to get HD 4000 working is also to get newer kernel.

Play with kernels. I have tested with many different kernel versions and got it working on 3.2.15 finally.

    Hi blackhatrob,

I also updated to kernel 3.2.15 cause my Intel HD 4000 was not working properly.

    SEE MY POST HERE

Can you tell me if you figured out something in Backtrack which was not working (security tools, etc....)? I am not the Linux specialist - it took me 3 weeks to figure out that I maybe have to use a different kernel to get my HD 4000 in working condition.

Do you also know the difference between the Backtrack Kernel and the updated one (3.2.15)?

    Thanks for reply

    Hi,

kernel use same glibc6 and as the linus says "WE DO NOT BREAK USERSPACE!" https://lkml.org/lkml/2012/12/23/75
Changes in 3.2.15 are here: https://lwn.net/Articles/492315/

Do not update to newer than that as you would have to update glibc6 and that would broke the applications.
