Did it start to boot from usb?..Any text on screen?..Have you tried live DVD..
Just to see the kind of issue you might have.
I have already tried this guide here
http://www.backtrack-linux.org/forum...ad.php?t=47479
But still when I boot up my HP Pavilion dv6 laptop with the usb I just get a black screen with a ticking white curser.
Can anyone help me with this?

Make usb active!
try unetbootin, just dl the iso from backtrack and use the tool, for me it worked fine.
It will format ur USB Stick to what is need and copy the files from the iso to ur usb.
Gui is very simple to understand, have fun
No It dosn't start anything just the ticking cursor.
What I wanted is to have backtrack installed on the usb so when it boots it asks for a password and such just like it would if you installed it to the hard drive.
It should be a video issue..What type of harware do you have?
Please post video, sound and wifi...Although it must be a video issue..
I've done with the Unetbootin and installed a live OS on the USB.
And the same problem persists with my DELL Inspiron N5010.
But, if I insert the same USB stick on differnet DELL Inspiron then it works fine.
Only, in my laptop it shows d cursor or sometimes blank screen after I type startx in the terminal.
