    Default C

    Hi

    As far as I recall osdep is a 'C' library....but you can embed your python into a 'C' program I guess...though that is a little awkward sometimes.

    Can't your oss pcap or scapy modules do what you want or could we write a new header for what you require then just import it?

    yes i know it's a c library but i was thinking of embedding my py in a c prog

    i have not yet decided wich library i will use... im trying several those days, last one i study is the A.NET one ...; from one of backtrack crew members...
    http://greyhat.ch/anet/

    after all my reviews i bet it will be libpcap wich will fit my needs.....

    Default py in c

    Ok. It is a plan. I never embedded. I always ended up doing prep work in python for speed and then moving on or coding in 'C'.

    I was always considered a dangerous coder in 'C' because I used pointers frequently. I did some really fine work in pthreads coding for multiple threads at the same time in the early SMP computers.

    Your anet lib looks useful. I quite like it. I might have a look in dteail later but yes it has promise. Again, compared with python it is taking fifty lines of code to do three lines of python with a good module. I will post up my sniffer code in a couple of hours. You can consider it.

    I think finally, yes, I will continue with libpcap but I never ifgnore other possibilities.

    For canopy I use only libpcap and scapy and of course some os modules.

    You know 'C' will be VERY quick. That was always why I used it...so fast!

    Hope you liked the paper I sent.

    Default sniff code

    Herewith sniff code in python for you to compare: (remove hash comment in line 17 and indent following two lines to print only new addresses).

    Is good and short no?

    Thank you for your kind comments about my paper. One other man here as you know also considered it and found it good.

    Code

    #!/usr/bin/python

    # set the iface to monitor mode first please
    # usage filename interface

    import sys
    from scapy import *

    interface = sys.argv[1]
    m = []

    def sniffMAC(p):
    if not p.haslayer(Dot11Beacon):

    if p.haslayer(Dot11):
    mac = p.sprintf("addr1 [%Dot11.addr1%)|addr2 (%Dot11.addr2%)|addr3 (%Dot11.addr3%)]")
    #if m.count(mac) == 0:
    m.append(mac)
    print mac

    sniff(iface=interface,prn=sniffMAC)

    #end of code

    Default scapy

    Yes, good. Scapy is trivial for the most part and not trivial in others.

    It is a good module to import and keeps the main python script clean.

    It also identifies WEP and WPA very easily.

    I will sort out some code snips to help you if you would like. Easy route to libpcap too.

    Scapy was born in France like Xploitz' Mandrake! Sacre bleu!

    yes your help would be a great thing because you are far away the most advanced programmer i know.......

    Really im honored you take so much time to help a noobish coder...

    BTW you can remove the little thing you send me (really impressive waooooo)

    and yes in France we have good coders but they all dash off as soon as possible because french employers don't pay enough.......and the french law limit you to 35h of works/week grrr !!!
    so they all go to the us or uk/ireland
