Virtual Operating systems cannot use the physical wifi card only usb wifi. The will use the physical wifi and replicate it as a wired interface however you can not , for example use a pcomia wifi card as wifi in a virtual guest.
A quick question about running Back Track 4 under VMware Player. I have used Back Track only in stand alone or dual boot configurations up to this point and am attempting it under VM now. I noticed that packet scanning seems to be problematic. Using the “Bridged” setting under VMware player I cannot take full control of any physical network card to get it into promiscuous mode. Please advise.
System Specs:
Gateway MX6421
2GB Ram
Ubuntu 910
VMware player:
512 Dedicated
20GB VM

So... If I use a USB wireless (or wired) card I should be able to put in into promiscuous mode from within the VM?
If u want to use BT in vmware. and you want to use aircrack-ng or any other software that uses wlan you need a USB wlan device
Thanks all
