Default I'm still getting invalid options with Aircrack

    Hello again.

I've done everything asked of this forum.
I've searched for answers, but still can't find the answers.

I'm trying to wep crack my old Linksys b router.

I have a an atheros based card for my lap top.
    I'm suing BT2 live cd.
    Aircrack version 0.7 r214
I've done every thing correct from the video tutorial I got from here.

When I get to this step.
    aircrack-ng -n 64 bssid xx:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx pumpkin-01.cap

    I get this error.

    aircrack-ng invalid option -- -

Everything before this step is working fine.

I've looked all over for answers in here and I can't find it.
I've had one moderator come back at me kind of flaming me saying this was cover several times already, but did not tell me where to look.
So please, can someone point me in the right direction.

    Thanks so much.

    update your aircrack-ng to 0.9.1

    you can also try aircrack-ng -b APMAC -n 64 FILE.CAP

    Thanks guys.
I'm running the live cd, so I don't think I can up date that.

    Anyway, I got it.
    What I did was this:

    aircrack-ng -a 1 -e pumpkin -b xx.xx.xx.xx.xx.xx pumpkin-01.cap

and bingo, it worked. Took about 20 minutes to get the key.

I found this on another tutorial and tried it.
I guess it needs that -e option (wireless name ) to work properly.

    All the replies were appreciated.

    Thanks again guys.

    Toby.

if you're not gonna do a harddrive install then def. try to get yourself a usb stick, bestbuy has a 4 gig at approx. 35 bucks, as much as i dislike best buy, it is in fact one of the best buys (pardon the phun but i had too) i've seen in awhile. after you update aircrack everything seems to go much faster, it's like you get more with less. i can generally crack keys with fewer IVs in less time than with the .7 version. also if you're lazy like me and you specify airodump to write all packets from a given channel instead of just from a given AP then when you start aircrack you can simply type
    "aircrack-ng (-f 2 this is optional but i prefer to use it) -n 128 capture (pumpkin-01).cap"
and that will test 128bit and 64bit keys by default as well as open up a list of captured IVs from various access points, now i won't tell you to analyze packets from access points that you don't own, but seeing this info should help you to refine your attacks to minimize the effect of collateral damage/interference. peace
