    hello everybody!
i'm italian so i'm not sure my english is good enough.
anyway i've a problem with my NetGear WG511 v1 working with BackTrack 2.0 Final: when i try "iwconfig eth0" status is "NOT READY" and if i try "ifconfig eth0 up" i get the following error: "SIOCSIFFLAGS: Timer expired"..
    obviously no leds are on
i've no idea what to do!
i tried google search but i wasn't able to find anything usefull!
    could anyone help me please?

    NetGear WG511 v1
    • Driver : prism54
    • Chipset : Conexant PrismGT FullMAC
    • Notice : v2/v3 and other revisions of this card are not prismGT FullMAC!
    • lspci : 03:00.0 Network controller: Intersil Corporation ISL3890 [Prism GT/Prism Duette]/ISL3886 [Prism Javelin/Prism Xbow] (rev 01)
Works great with Backtrack 2 Final, have cracked many WEP keys. Supports packet injection.

    http://www.prism54.org/fullmac.html

from aircrack-ng : supported by aireplay for linux : YES (driver patching recommended)

    Code:

    ifconfig eth1 down
    rmmod prism54
    wget "http://svnweb.tuxfamily.org/dl.php?repname=prism54+%28prism54%29&path=%2Ftrunk%2F&rev=531&isdir=1" -O prism54_r531.tar.gz
    wget http://patches.aircrack-ng.org/prism54-svn-20050724.patch
    tar -xvzf prism54_r531.tar.gz
    cd trunk
    patch -Np1 -i ../prism54-svn-20050724.patch
    make modules && make install
    wget http://prism54.org/firmware/1.0.4.3.arm
    mkdir -p /usr/lib/hotplug/firmware
    mkdir -p /lib/firmware
    cp 1.0.4.3.arm /usr/lib/hotplug/firmware/isl3890
    mv 1.0.4.3.arm /lib/firmware/isl3890
    depmod -a
    modprobe prism54
IT SHOULD WORK !!! even with native drivers, so maybe hardware pb...
if you want injection you need to patch see above...
if you don't manage to do anything please post dmesg output and lspci output....
Watch your back, your packetz will belong to me soon... xD

prism54: Your card/socket may be faulty, or IRQ line too busy

as i said before it's probably hw pb or conflict with another irq

    at boot time
    boot : bt irqpoll

    or

    buy a new card

i've tried bt irqpoll but it still doesn't work!!
    no green leds at all!
    what can i do!?
is it a drivers' problem? i should download other drivers for my card?
    is it my laptop's problem?
it seems that the slot where i put my card is in some way disabled! can i check it somewhere?

I just got my NetGear WG511 v1 in the mail today. Works great in Windows, but not in BackTrack 2. I have the same problem as principVo.

I know the slot is working, I know the card is working, and BT2 can recognise the card and knows what driver to load. I just can't do anything with it.

    *Edit*
My friend has advised me that it's actually a version 3 unfortunately (it didn't say on the card)... looks like I got ripped off.

    Hi,

I have exactly the same problem principVo has,
    No led ON,
    iwconfig -> NOT READY!

and ifconfig eth1 up -> SIOCSIFFLAGS: Timer expired

Anyone has an idea of how to make it work??

    Thanks,

    ++
    Thomas

    PS : Hardware : WG511v1 on a Compaq nx 8220, backtrack2.
