Why did you do this?
What is the exact error message?
Make what properly?
I don't understand. What have you made?
My honest opinion; format partition and reinstall backtrack. Assuming you've got it installed on your hard drive.
im probably new on this operating system (linux distro) and i have a problem with my permissions,
i have selected all of the Folders in /etc/ to "777" all of the folders cuz ive made a new User set the
permission as Root but i have noticed that some of my programs, Postgresql for example Wont
work for the reason that the file permission was not compatible for it to run, and i am planning
to RESTORE all the PERMISSIONS to Default and i dont know how to make it properly?, and also my ROOT
account wont login bacause of the stupid thing i have made.
Thanks.![]()

Thank you for the reply, i meant the programs and my root account are not working properly due of what i have made,
i think the only way to fix all these problems is to reinstall backtrack.
Thanks Daedalus!
The quickest solution is a re-install.
The obvious "hey I learned something" point is, "don't futz with permissions when you don't know what you're doing". (There are lots of threads about adding accounts.)
I'm a compulsive post editor, you might wanna wait until my post has been online for 5-10 mins before quoting it as it will likely change.
I know I seem harsh in some of my replies. SORRY! But if you're doing something illegal or posting something that seems to be obvious BS I'm going to call you on it.
The root programs should work even with permissions to all users..Something else was done incorrectly...I do no t see why changing 777 to an app, root cannot execute any more..
Something else happen..But again, change permissions to the folder : chmod 770 or 775 and see...As for the account, what is exactly the problem?..The user or password?...
