Installing Nessus 3.0.6

Can you guys recommend some good documentations on the Nessus? I did search Google and also some book stores and I did not find any thing good. So far I have better luck with Nmap in finding OS/Services/Version and then used internet to find corresponding vulnerabilities/exploits. Also I like using Metasploit Framework3 (db_autopwn, etc..). I really like to learn Nessus so I can use it effectively. I am not that naive to this area as I have CISSP, CEH, MCSE:Security, Security+, SCNP, CWNA/CWSP, Network+, A+.

I am surprised that the CEH does not cover detailed use of Nessus...

Thanks guys. I am all set. Best thing I have seen in documentation is elazar's tutorial for Nessus installation.

elazar, Nessus was covered in CEH during Linux Hacking Module and probably in some other modules. I certified in CEH in the early 1994 and the version of the Nessus we used is probably old compared to todays 3.0.6 version. Also, CEH course covers 21 Modules in a week's time and there are hundreds of tools to go through during that week. However it is a both fun and challenging course.

Ahh, I know the feeling, once you have the cert you don't want to ever have to go back and train again, but then again, this stuff keeps changing...

Just in case any one wants to know if you do the slackware 12.0 upgrade this tutorial will work for that too. nessus works fine. In case any one hadn't noticed I did the upgrade and now I'm going through some of the more popular add ons to bt and making sure they compile correctly and if i find one that doesn't I will remedy it.

Thanks for the info purehate. I actually just had to wipe my BT machine and start from scratch, I screwed up my OpenGL libraries So I am going through the whole compile/installation phase...

It appears that the needed NessusClient-3.0.0.beta5-es4.i386.rpm is no longer availiable for download at the site. Does anyone have a copy they could upload for me? I'm anxious to try elazars tutorial.

It is xploitz its just no longer a beta. Look for the same file just minus the beta 5 part.
