According to the FAQ, I should be seeing updates weekly or sooner. Is that still the case?
I am running BT5R3-GNOME-VM-32 in VMware Workstation. I the past, I ran "apt-get update; apt-get upgrade" once a week, and it always installed at least some updates. But with BT5R3, I haven't seen updates in weeks, perhaps months.
The upgrade just returns:
Code:root@bt:~# apt-get upgrade Reading package lists... Done Building dependency tree Reading state information... Done 0 upgraded, 0 newly installed, 0 to remove and 0 not upgraded.
I believe there's stuff being added and updated in the repositories (per Redmine), but I'm not getting it. I have tried in NAT and bridged mode. The behavior is the same (no updates) with multiple VM instances. I even unzipped and ran a virgin VM to try it a couple of weeks ago. There was a large number of updates the first time, but none since. Is it possible that something has corrupted my /etc/apt/sources.list?
In NAT mode, I could understand if my host AV caused problems, but I normally use bridged, and I've tried it without the AV anyway.Code:deb http://all.repository.backtrack-linux.org revolution main microverse non-free testing deb http://32.repository.backtrack-linux.org revolution main microverse non-free testing #deb http://source.repository.backtrack-linux.org revolution main microverse non-free testing deb http://updates.repository.backtrack-linux.org revolution main microverse non-free testing
I've searched the forums and Google, but I don't see anyone else having the same issue. Any assistance would be appreciated.
TIA

It looks like some stuff was checked in recently. But the updates don't match the activity in Redmine.
Is anyone's wireshark at version 1.8.3? Mine is still 1.8.1-bt7.
Please search before posting.

Thanks g0tmi1k. Actually I'd been searching for a couple of months before I posted. Either I never used the right search terms, or I totally missed your actual response in that sea of irrelevant arguing about apt-get & aptitude.
So, that leaves the other two questions above...
Should the FAQ be changed to reflect the new lack of an update schedule, or is that likely something that will be remedied soon?
And since the Wireshark 1.8.3 update is closed, shouldn't my version have been updated by now? (It's still 1.8.1-bt7.)
Thanks again.
That would be great, thanks!
g0tmi1k, assuming you keep your BT5R3 up to date, what version of wireshark do you have? I tend to suspect that a problem that is unreported or barely reported is probably mine and not being experienced by everyone else. But it just seems so odd that I would be the only one in this case.
<dookie2000ca> i just did the final testing on wireshark so it'll be in the repo soon<g0tmi1k> I just thought as soon as its was "closed" its in the reops
<g0tmi1k> repos*
<g0tmi1k> I didn't know how it fully worked
<dookie2000ca> nah, that just means it's on its way
<dookie2000ca> the repos are flushing as we speak(type)
I use the version of wireshark thats in the repos, unless they haven't updated it and there is a security issue. Then Ill compile from source.
