I should have mentioned that i'm using R3.
anyway i just force restarted it and through terminal ran passwd root and just changed the password to something of my choosing
worked well.
Can anyone speculate on this?
In my experience BT authentication is by default root:toor.
This is a fresh copy; live on my USB.
I went to screensaver and it locked and now it's not letting me back in.
Thanks.

well first off from my experience these are to be ran live! but the first thing that you would do is open the terminal and type :
passwd root
type new UNIX password ://your new passwd//
retype new password : //retype it//
that way if you close the lid of the laptop/enter sleep mode it will be your and not the default toor
this root only has worked for me when it is installed on a VM
figure01,
yeah that's exactly what I did
i was also booting it live
