Angry Black screen after entering "startx"

    Hello everyone,
I'm new to BT and I'm trying to install it alongside Windows 7 on my HP G72 laptop. I put BT5R3 on a USB flash drive using "Universal USB Installer" (torrented the ISO from the website, didn't use the one in the drop-down menu). It boots, but when I enter "startx" the screen goes black and nothing happens except the Caps Lock light blinks constantly. I left it alone for two hours and nothing happened other than that. The laptop seemed to be doing something; the fan was running and it was fairly warm. Any ideas how to fix this? I used the same ISO on a VirtualBox machine and it worked, but it can't do anything with the wireless card from within the virtual machine.

You should really do a search on forum, cause that answer is covered in a lot of topics...
Try this on the boot select screen:

If this bug appear when you are using Backtrack 5 R3 Live USB you can press "Tab" button on the boot option menu and this code "i915.modeset=1" after "vga = 791 splash text" and the press [enter]

    Else you can try this:

You can edit Grub configuration on /boot/grub/grub.cfg and find the Backtrack boot menu and add this code "i915.modeset=1" (same as before) after "vga = 791 splash text".

You have more help on threads over the forum

Please, post with more info...There are many issues with video, but it depends on the type of hardware, nvidia, ATI, Intel..You do not give much of information...

Sorry, need to be more specific and not use terms as " optimus", DVC, etc...Do not assume or take for granted that by using these terms we "must" know the implicit hardware.

Specify if dual graphics card, model and default (in case of 2 video cards). Do not take anything for granted, my friend.

    Luck
