    Default Awus036H vs Awus036s

    Hello,
I'm was looking for a usb/pcmcia card with an antena and it looks like those two are perfect. I read the two tests about them here:

    http://www.tuto-fr.com/en/tutorial/m...fa-network.php

    and here

    http://www.tuto-fr.com/en/tutorial/m...fa-network.php

The S version seems to be the "worthy succesor" of the H version with a "much better rt2500 chipset". BUT on the review of the S version, the screenshot with the AP in range is quite impressive !!

There is also a big difference of the price: H $80 S $30

So I ask you here for some advices. What do you think about those 2 cards ?

    Thanks,
    Regards,
    Tex

Smile I have the cheaper S version

    Hi

I have the cheaper S version, the standard aerial it comes with isn't anything above average but i also brought a 7dbi external aerial which has a magnetic base and its fantastic, no need to piss around with configuring or doing anything fancy to get it going in BT 2 just plug it in and away you go.

Something i found out when buying my external aerial which may help others was .... the higher the gain the better the range because the more focused the signal (not sure on the terminology on that one) which means you need to actually point it in the correct direction.

My 7dbi aerial has a 56 degree field left and right

    Hi,
thanks for your advice. Your configuration is the one I also had on mind. i.e. S version + additional antena.

    hum hum.

Maybe I should play heads or tails

Can you do Rich Little doing Howard Cosell?
A third party security audit is the IT equivalent of a colonoscopy. It's long, intrusive, very uncomfortable, and when it's done, you'll have seen things you really didn't want to see, and you'll never forget that you've had one.

No fun when you gotta 'splain a joke.

Rich Little is famous for doing impressions, Howard Cosell is a now dead, famous sports announcer.
