Default Comodo Antivirus on Backtrack 5

    Hello all !

It may seem to be a stupid question - Antivirus on Backtrack ??
I want to use BT 5 R3 HDD install as main OS.
I am a newbie and want to learn pentesting with BT tools, so it will be good to use it as main OS so i will be in touch with BT all the time instead of tackling issues of VM run.

As i am newbie and use it as main OS so it is also important to secure my own BT box as i will have all data here. I was thinking to install COMODO Antivirus for Linux.

    My questions are :
    1. Is it safe to install Comode AV on BT box and exclude /pentext/ folder ??
    2. Will it destroy BT box - as BT has lot of tools that antiviruses may not like ?

Can someone point me to right direction

Antiviruses are not recommended on Backtrack due to it's purpose, you might need to compile different exploits, etc. which the AV won't like.
This is just a personal suggestion, don't install Backtrack as your main OS. Use it within a Virtual Machine or a USB.

I have used an ClamAV, which is Anti-virus, for about 1 year but there was no problem. And I used bt5 as main OS because of my job, but no problem.
If you want it as main OS, I recommend you to encrypt a drive of your computer using an encryted tool like "truecrpyt".

Dont use backtrack as your main operating system it will just be a headache.
If you really want it on your computer maybe you should dual boot windows and backtrack.
Some things just wont work on backtrack.
If you want Linux as an operating system so you can learn as you go (Which is a good idea) try Ubuntu.

Hi CheongHoPT, Good to know that you are using ClamAV in backtrack.
I will try Comode AV and see the results.

BTW, you wrote to encrypt a drive.
So should i encrypt drive just to store my data OR should i encrypt drive where Backtrack is installed.
    Please advise.

I hear that people install backtrack with encryption. What are the advantages of this method?
