    Default Backtrack 2.0 final help

    Hi.
I have downloaded this and have downloaded the tutorial on how to crack wep and can figure that out ok but where does the ivs file get saved when using the Live CD.
I do a search file for the file i named to save packets to but comes up with nothing.
I also noticed i can make a virtual drive on the desktop and have done that but because im so new to this and not used to this system then im a bit baffled.
I would like to put backtrack onto either hard drive or USB memmory card but i need some easy steps or a command line to set this up.
I have downloaded the easy step for usb and will try that tonight.
I guess that whilst i use the live CD it will not let me save files to desktop or anything else.

it's saved normally in the directory you have launched command....
or in the path you have specified.........

    -w capture

    will create capture-01.cap or capture-01.ivs
    the number increase each capture

are you sure you use --ivs switch to get ivs file if not you will get cap file...

the simple way to put on usb is to use my bt2usb installer under windows........

    Hi.
    Thanks for the reply.
I did try using the usb 3 easy steps but it downloaded the iso then checked it and was ok then formatted usb then said installing it. but when i look inside usb drive there is nothing but it has changed usb to say backtrack 2.0.
I did try manually copying the 2 folders from ISO to usb drive but it will not boot up or give the options to boot from usb when comp restarted.
I dont think any IVS can be saved using the backtrack 2.0 live CD as it would not be writable.
This is why i wanted the option of using the usb.
Problem is i dont know enough about operating system comands to figure it out.
    I do Airodump-ng -c 9 --BSSID 00:00:00:00:00 -w test ETH1

I know the BSSID is wrong but it is just to show how i do the commands.
What am i missing in commands if i want to save the IV file to hard drive on my comp or to the USB device.
I normally call the file test.

best thing is to repartitionate usb...........

first part fat32, install live bt onto
second part, ext2 for the changes

    apply the changes mod

    boot : bt changes=/dev/xxx

or modify kernel append line in lilo to include this param, rebuild lilo....

    Hi.
Sorry to sound so daft but im realy new to linux commands so bear with me on this.
I have figured out that if i put a usb stick in when backtrack has booted up it will give me the drive on desktop and if i open it i can create a folder.
But running airodump-ng i use the command -w to write as i am told but dont know what to type after that to direct it to the usb to save ivs.

    I have been typing airodump-ng -c 9 --BSSID ******** -w Test.ivs ATH0

This then runs airodump and works but i dont know where the ivs have gone or even if there being saved somewhere.
I do a file search for test.ivs but nothing found.

Can you tell me what i have to type to make a folder on USB drive using the bash script and another script on how to start airodump-ng to save to the file.
Hope im not asking for too much.

you will find your drive under

    /mnt/

find the right directory, and create a directory

    mkdir /mnt/PATHTOUSB/DIRECTORYNAME

Sorry if i seem very new but im used to windows so this is new to me and the commands.
I found that in windows i had problems which is why im trying to get used to using Backtrack 2.0 CD.

    Default aeroplay-ng help

    Hi.
After some figuring out i managed to mount my USB stick by doing right click on desktop then mount on then selecting removeble device.
So now i can save my data to that.
I am having some problem with aireplay-ng and what to do to make it work.
once i managed to athenticate then it stopped then tries again.
Does this a few times then quits.
Then i run the aireplay -3 to capture but it runs and cannot capture authentication requests even though it has captured around 130 packets.
is there 2 command lines someone can send me for doing the injection side in aeroplay-ng.
    Card is netgear WAG511.
i can add the mac addresses but need the rest of the command lines to copy and paste into the shell box.
    Thanks.
