Hey guys,
I'm trying to find what tools backtrack has in comparison to what my current VA system uses, which is, for the most part, the following:
Amap
Dsniff
Ike-scan
Jisql
Kismet
LDAPbrowser
LDAPminer
Mad-wifi driver
Metasploit Framework
Nc (Netcat)
Nemesis
Nessus-Core & Nessus-Client
Net-snmp & Net-snmp-libs
Nikto
Nmap
Ntfsprogs
Openssl & Openssl-devel
Postgresql-jdbc
Smbldap-tools
Stunnel
Tcpdump
Tcpreplay
Tftp
Tnscmd.pl
Tsclient
Vconfig
VMplayer
Wireshark
Backtrack has some of these tools, but they don't have others. I've been trying to look through the wiki and came up with the following so far:
[What I have that backtrack doesn't have ] -> [Tool backtrack uses instead, to do the same job]
Netcat -> Cryptcat
Ntfsprogs -> Sleuth Kit, Autopsy
Net-snmp -> Mibble, Snmpcheck
Smbldap-tools -> SMB Client
Stunnel/Openssl -> Curl, Socat
I *think* those mappings are right, correct me if I'm wrong. Can anyone see anything else in that list that backtrack doesn't have, or has another app to do the same function?
Thanks,
Xz

Thanks for the the link to the wiki tool list that I clearly said I've already been to.
I'm not the best with this stuff. I was given a manual build from someone, and I'm looking for an already-built system to make this easier on me later if I ever have to fend for myself "building" a system.
Particularly I'm looking for what backtrack has (if they even have it) to:
- view vm images
- replay pcap files
- tftp
- remote access
- add vlan tags to packets
- java database client (scripting)
- browse ldap directories
- extract ldap info
- create disk images (ntfs too)
This thread is pointless. either the distro is what you need or not. Perhaps you should take the time to reasearch each tool and see if it has the fuctionality your looking for. Futhermore back track is based on slax linux so it is no sweat to add precompiled moduled from the slax site. Linux is totally custumizable so if you decide to use this fine distro we can help you add the tools you need.
Here is the wiki entry on how to add modules.
