On Reaver, your signal is very bad, try getting closer to the AP. That is most likely your problem.
Your chipset is very much compatible with Linux, in fact, it is the best one you can get.
hi guyz
here's my review using
Acer 4755G i5 VIDIAŽ GeForceŽ GT 540M with NVIDIA
with Atheros AR9287 ath9k wireless
WEP
i successfully crack 4 routers with no problems with it
WAP using Dictionary
i successfully crack 1 routers using dictionary
WAP using REAVER 1.4
it already been 3 day having problems with this
i read the wiki on how to use reaver and i learn the trick
using aireplay-ng. but still im not successfully crack the 8 number pins.
AP target signal was ranges to -70 to -80 via "wash -i mon0 -C -s"
reaver commands "reaver -i mon0 -b "bssid of target ap" -c "ap channel" -vv
my question is Atheros AR9287 ath9k compatible with reaver? ath9k is on the list of compatible wireless.
can anyone help me with the same wireless driver am i using.
thanks in advance.

AP is either too far or you have a lot of blocking in between..-70db to -80-db is way out of range. You need better signal and very good liknk quality which is most important parameter over strenght.
In your case seems to me like AP has a lot of blocking stuff in between (Windows, metal doors, metal frames, windo or door meshes, brick walls, EMI noise, trees, even Microwave ovens, which work at 2.4Ghz, unless the AP is using 5ghz band. But blocking is a huge issue.
Try to move and open up windows near by, use an external antenna, specially yagi or grid type, portable yagi or grid one. Keep checking signal and quality.
No matter how strong signal is, if the quality link is bad, you will not be able to inject...I've had times with -72db signals and inject very fast, sometimes with -62db simple unable to inject..Why?..I had to read and investigate..Finally the link quality...
Many things are involved in this matter, blocking issues, strenght signal, link quality, type of antenna, type of wifi card, card driver, etc....
Just move around and see if link quality improves.
Use the aireplay-ng -9 "your iface" or aireplay-ng --test "your iface" see the link quality (xx/xx format). You will see also the signal strenght there..You have the 2 parameters to see if you keep moving to get a better signal or use an external antenna.
Luck..
