What does it say before it hangs?
That could be a good indication where the problem is.
I downloaded BT5R2 / KDE (md5sum matched) and burned an ISO (verification passed) for a live DVD. When I boot from the DVD it gives me the following options:
BackTrack Text
BackTrack Stealth
BackTrack Forensics
BackTrack noDRM
BackTrack Debug
BackTrack Memtest
BackTrack Boot
I tried various options, with the same result: a bunch of text displays on the screen about kernel configuration, driver installation etc., and then it hangs. This is not at all what I was expecting. I thought the live DVD would boot and display a KDE menu for the BackTrack application.
Please advise...

My searches on this error identify solutions that suggest I edit config files and the like, but I don't see how I can do this because I'm trying to boot from a live DVD. I guess one option is to move to a USB thumb drive.
For now I got backtrack working by moving to a different PC. The live DVD fails to completely boot on my new PC, a Dell 390, but works OK on my old PC, a Dell 380. The reason why I'm using the new PC is because the old one has been manufacturer discontinued and I'm trying use backtrack / wireshark to trouble shoot some WiFi adapter / driver problems on the new PC.
It is a video card issue...Not all video cards works "out of the box" for BT5...That is why in the other laptop works fine..
So no matter what install you use (HDD, USB, DVD, etc) all will fail to load since your video card has issues with the BT5 software,,...
Try debug mode...Try to change screen resolution..
Luck.
