when you initially boot up the CD it should so you the version above the login prompt.
Hello,
I have backtrack 5 running on a bootable thumbdrive.
Once loaded, from either the command line or GUI interface (after running startx) is there a command I can run that will tell me what version of backtrack 5 I am running.
I actually have two thumbdrives. 1 running Backtrack 5 (maybe RC1) and the other thumb drive is running RC2. They got mixed up and I wanted to find out how to figure our which is which.
Thank you for the help,
Eric

Both versions say the same thing above the login prompt. There has to be another way to get the correct version information.
Hi guys, I just was curious about the USB boot, Is there any way to save updates without having to keep loading them once rebooted

Check the "Install BackTrack Persistent to USB" guide.
