i am searching an way, to setup an cluster for distributed cracking
i tried to setup the boxes with gentoo and john the ripper with mpi support, but this is very buggy, if you do something like john --status, or john --show it ends in an "Segmentation fault (core dumped)"
i used this do add the mpi support to john
"John The Ripper MPI Patch" from bindshell.net
There are a number of ways to achieve what you want. You probably will not really want to proceed. However, if you do, you will need to consider opportunities either to hand over control to the operating system or to recode the program using threads. I used pthreads for SMP programming very effectively. Ousterhous is a renowned author. Additionally, there are some very informative articles on parallel computing. Programming for SMPs is great fun.
Try this search enquiry and try to think at a higher level in your brain.

I doubt a distribution like gentoo will have the handles you need to setup a cluster. Of course, I may be wrong.
