apt-get update , Unable to connect to source

I am using Backtrack 5 R2 KDE on my Dell XPS side by side with Windows 7.
I have connected to internet via my University wifi using a proxy. I have access to internet via Firefox.
But when i use any "apt" command in terminal to install any package it shows an errors like Could not connect to 32.repository.backtrack-linux.org:80 (67.159.60.63), etc.


This is what it happens when i type sudo apt-get install gedit in terminal.

I would like to recommend to run this command first:

apt-get update

After that then you can try to use the apt-get anything command..
I think the sources list on your machine is pointing to a wrong IP, and the "apt-get update"
should resolve this. I hope it helps^^

You are behind a proxy, so you need to specify it in the apt configuration file (try to use aptitude)..So look for the apt.conf and if does not exist, look for the directory apt.conf.d...Need to know which one you have..
If apt.conf, just add this line:

Short format:
Acquire::http::Proxy "<proxy address>:PORT"; or

Long format
# Configuración para utilizar un proxy Web
Acquire {
http {
Proxy "http://xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx:PORT“;
}
}

If apt.conf.d, go to that directory and create a new file called per say, "99apt-proxy", or "88my-proxy", etc (use 2 numbers and then letters)etc, then insert this:

Short format:
Acquire::http::Proxy "<proxy address>:PORT"; or

Long format
# Configuración para utilizar un proxy Web
Acquire {
http {
Proxy "http://xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx:PORT“;
}
}

If you set a user and password to the proxy, then just do this:

# My Proxy with user:Password
Acquire {
http {
Proxy "http://my_user:my_password@xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx:PORT";
}
}

Or short format:

Acquire::ftp::Proxy "http://my_user:my_password@xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx:PORT";

Use the " doble quotes " in the proxys info, it is a value = String...

Try it..

Okay; try this sudo apt-get update (i happen to stumble a pone this when i was looking for how to install missing/locked/unaccessable files)

then try this sudo apt-get dist-upgrade* "file" (where "file" is what you want to upgrade; you can do several files at once, such as "sudo apt-get dist-upgrade metasploit framework framework2 framework3" ect (separate them by spaces; do not add commas; do not add anything to the upgrade process but a space between what you want to upgrade...)

* = maybe install instead of upgrade im not on bt5 atm...

but it took me 3 days to fully figure out how to install/upgrade completely (and now im running bt5r2 i was running bt5r1) and i was only trying to install metasploits framework (and update it...)

all i have to say is dont give up; there is always a way to do what you want; (perhaps the person above me is right and you need to configure your router/firewall... idk. im still getting used to the command process myself............ >.<)
