Default Freeradius wpe - Could not recover last 2 bytes of hash from the challenge/response

    Hey,

I am 'experimenting' with freeradius-wpe and succeed with capturing several mschapv2 challenge response pairs who are hiding each an ntlm hash.
With the tool 'asleap', I can discover the last 2 bytes of that ntlm hash.

Now I got a challenge response pair that give the error 'Could not recover last 2 bytes of hash from the challenge/response'.

    username: CB\<person name>
    challenge: 53:10:84:c2:4c:5a:bb:fd
    response: 6f:a3:45:cb:f5:11:ca:6d:d1:12:49:5a:8e:02:3b:30:5f :85:db:09:34:0a:e4:11

I noticed that just in this pair the username begins with "CB\", so I thought that this could be an workgroup or domain and this is using a different kind of encryption.

My question is, what kind of encryption is use here and can I crack it?

    greetings

Default Re: Freeradius wpe - Could not recover last 2 bytes of hash from the challenge/respon

I'm having the same issue here. I've had some success cracking challenge/response pairs using asleap/JTR when there's no domain, however every time I put in domain credentials ('MYDOMAIN\testuser'), it is unable to crack - asleap throws the 'last 2 bytes' error.

    Any suggestions?
