testdisk won't run

I've been unable to run testdisk for quite some time.

Running testdisk gives me:

The program 'testdisk' is currently not installed. To run 'testdisk' please ask your administrator to install the package 'testdisk'
You will have to enable the component called 'universe'

Running

apt-get install testdisk

gets

Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information... Done
testdisk is already the newest version.
0 upgraded, 0 newly installed, 0 to remove and 0 not upgraded.

Going to Forensic Carving Tools -> testdisk results in:

sh: line 0: cd: /pentest/forensics/testdisk/linux/: No such file or directory

So I went to Preferences -> main Menu a change the command from

sh -c "cd /pentest/forensics/testdisk/linux/ && ./testdisk_static -h;sudo -s"

to:

sh -c "cd /pentest/forensics/testdisk/ && ./testdisk_static -h;sudo -s"

Still didn't get anywhere. I've been running testdisk from other distros and Live CD with no problem so I wonder what's going on.

Purging and reinstalling resulted in the same errors.

Hi,

I'm having exactly those symptoms on my new body (BT5 R-2) and trying to repair my mind (500 GB partition lost) so could any doctor specialist help me/us out?

any medicine (ideas) to cure (fix) my memory loss,

EDIT: Go to the synaptic package manager and force version an older version of testdisk (like 6.11) and close the synaptic package manager after applying the older version, then run testdisk, and VOILA!.
