It lies in the nature of 32bit operating systems that thet cannot detect a full 4 gigs of RAM, normally it stops at 3+- gigabyte
I buyed HP Pavilion g6 1301tx laptop. It had 2 GB RAM. I upgraded from 2GB to 4GB. Now it has 4GB RAM. Then, I installed Backtrack 5 32 bit version on my laptop. But it is not showing full RAM. It is showing around 2.5GB memory only. What is the reason. How can it be solved?

Since it's a new laptop try to download the 64 bit and see if that works. Do a usb boot and check the ram. If that works then just upgrade to 64. I have a hp dm4 with 4 gig i'm going to upgrade it to 8... Can't wait for that... lol...
i ve the same problem, ive 4gb rams, but btrack showing only 2.9 gbs.
in ubuntu i can fix it by installing generic-pae packets.
