Default Question: Using BT5 r2 and a thumb drive

I want to use BT5 on my asus Eee 901 but as most know mini ssd are to small for the OS. I rather have it on a duel boot but due to the way windows works I can't do it with the base drive.

What I have a question is. I have toyed with the live cd which is nice every thing works fine but my sound driver for it but it is not my issue or my question.

What I was wondering if I use a thumb drive is there a way to install the OS on to it not as a live. This way if I do updates to software or install software it will stay for when ever I want to use it again?

Urgh, I don't know if this is possible.

But I prefer Live Boots, they are most confident.
