This looks like a source & compilation issue to me. Do you have any customization of your BT5 install?
I am facing an Nmap relocation error shown below:
I have no customizations on my Backtrack installation, so that isn't an issue. I also tried to purge namp and re install but still faced the same issue. Does anyone have a remedy?Code:'nmap: relocation error: /lib/libnss_mdns4_minimal.so.2: symbol strlen, version GLIBC_2.0 not defined in file libc.so.6 with link time reference'

If I could figure out how to scuba dive & hack at the same time, there would be nothing I couldn't do...
i am also having problem with NMAP like this:-

Well I have nmap 5.59 Beta1 in my debian and the version before this one in my other laptop, running without any problem.
I always have to download the tar file, compile it, make and make install, then run it. In my case, as priority, always install gcc, build-essentials, make, linux headers, fakeroot and then just compile.
When trying to install new version, uninstall actual version you are using, you have to "make purge nmap" if installed with make.
You might want to try downlod the nmap (tar or gzip), compile it and install it.
Remember to have all needed to compile.
Try apt-get purge nmap , apt-get update , and apt-get install nmap
There is a newer version in the repos and this problem should be fixed.
To be successful here you should read all of the following.

hey Guys, I'm get the same relocation error when I use Nmap 5.51SVN that comes inside metasploit v4.3.0-dev [core:4.3 api:1.0]. I have no problem so far when I use Nmap 5.61TEST4 that comes with BT-RC2 32bit gnome. Is anyone else having this problem?
