sir, i tried these steps as u mentioned
    " open terminal :
    update-rc.d wicd defaults
    /etc/init.d/wicd start
    /etc/init.d/networking start
iwconfig ( to show all network devices)
ifconfig (put your device ,Ex. Ifconfig eth0 up) "

but even after i restart , i get the same issue " unable to get ip address " .. i tried connecting to a open ap but still it shows the same issue and if i connect to a wap2 its says " bad password " .. i have tried every possible way ... i cant even use "apt-get update" command because i dnt have any internet access .. the only way to connect to internet is via wifi .. so plzzz help me ...
i have dual boot windows 7 and backtrack 5 r3 and
my network adapter list shows ralink rt3090 wireless 802.11b/g/n wifi adapter and realtek pcie FE family controller

Once you login to BT5, open up a terminal and start networking services: /etc/init.d/wicd start

    Then try to connect again.
